If you live in Faisalabad and you belong to a certain category of people known as foodies, you must know that your city will soon be getting its very own food street to tantalise your taste buds with its scrumptious cultural cuisines.
The food street will be set up at Iqbal Stadium, where the district government has set up beautiful food cabins. Furthermore, the façade of the stadium has been revamped to give it a fresh and better look in order to make it the centre of attention for visitors.
The authorities concerned will put the food cabins on auction soon. Though the area is already characterised by a number of restaurants, the addition of a food street will increase its value further and will make it a one-stop spot for food-lovers to relish a number of traditional cuisines.
The district government has recently spent a hefty sum on widening the roads around the stadium and has undertaken various developments to beautify it. According to a news source, Rs 30 million have been spent on widening of roads and the development of a parking area with a capacity for more than 200 cars.
Before launching the beautification drive in the area, the government had told the shopkeepers to remove any structures marring the look of the stadium. The beautification of the area has brought it on par with other high-end shopping areas of the city, such as the ones in People’s Colony and D Ground.
The Faisalabad district coordination officer (DCO) told reporters that more than 2 acres of land had been illegally occupied by land-grabbers, but the land had been retrieved before starting development work on the food street.
According to Mr Azeem Qamar Gujjar from Gujjar Real Estate Linker, the development of the food street in the Iqbal Stadium area will cause an increase in property prices in its nearby residential communities, including Civil Lines and Officers Colony. Investors should take note of that.
If Lahore’s famous food street, which is visited by a large number of food lovers every day, is any indication, I believe the development of a food street in Faisalabad will not only add new flavours to the city’s cuisine but will also enhance the value of properties in its neighbourhood.
