Lahore: According to Lahore Lord Mayor Mubashir Javed, a lack of resources, manpower and non-compliance are the main reasons affecting the encroachment drive, as per a news report. While talking to media, the Mayor said that non-compliance with authorities over removing encroachments is the main reason why the metropolis can’t be rid of this problem.
Javed said that they’ve been unable to remove encroachments even from around the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Baksh. He said that wooden carts return the next day after being removed. He said localities such as Dharam Pura, Karim Park, Urdu Bazaar, and The Mall are areas where the MCL have been able to root out encroachments. The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has removed 11 trucks from Ghalib Market in Gulberg Zone, Ek Moria Pul, GT Road, Lal Pul in Shalamar Zone, and various other localities.
A two-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan have banned commercialisation of properties in the city and asked for detailed reports from the Lahore Development Authority.
