Multan: Factories not having a proper waste treatment plant will be served notices and those not adhering to the instructions will be sealed, a news source quoted Multan Division Commissioner Nadeem Irshad Kayani. He also issued strict orders against channeling untreated waste water in rivers, canals, and rainwater drains.
Kiyani gave these instructions while heading a meeting held to discuss operation and progress of Water and Sanitation Agency, Solid Waste Management Company (SWMC), Environment Department, and Irrigation Department. He also said that Multan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Nashtar Hospital and University, and industries in the city should also be taken on board to deal with pollution.
Kiyani also said that a successful project is designed by considering its plan and needs for the next 25 years. Addressing the SWMC, he stressed that the land fill site for solid waste disposal should be picked carefully by considering the expected growth in Multan’s population.
