Lahore: The Environment Protection Department has decided to temporarily shut down factories that emit smoke after October 20, according to a news source. The decision has been taken to reduce the amount of smog that hits various parts of Punjab in the fall.
In addition to that, the Environment Protection Department has also instructed the factory owners to replace their existing filtration systems with more efficient ones by the given deadline or they will face legal charges and be heavily penalised. The ban will last throughout the smog period.
As an additional measure, the factory owners are also asked to use dry scrubbers instead of wet scrubbers to save water from being wasted.
