Lahore: Facebook has launched its first Innovation Lab in Pakistan, according to a news source. The social media company worked with the government and the National Technology Fund (Ignite) to set it up. Reportedly, the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is also affiliated with the project as a partner.

This lab facility is part of the National Incubation Center (NIC) at LUMS. Many policy-makers and industry leaders attended its launch ceremony. The lab is expected to promote start-ups and entrepreneurs. It will also help developers create apps and products. As per reports, the lab’s management plans to promote emerging technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).

Jason Lin, head of Start-up Programmes at Facebook, was also present at the launch ceremony. She expressed the tech giant’s long-term commitment to promoting innovation in Pakistan. She also stressed the importance of the developer community for the country, and its need for continual support.
The lab’s initiatives include mentor programmes and training workshops.

Ignite CEO Yusuf Hussain said that this launch would promote the use of technology in Pakistan. It will help launch crucial 4IR technology in the country. Along with VR and AR, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also integral.
Industry experts lauded this launch as a step towards increased innovation and technological development in the country.
