Peshawar: The extension work on the provincial capital’s Arbab Niaz Stadium has begun, a news source reported. This is the stadium that hosts international one-day matches and tests in the city.
The approval for the extension work was given during the previous term of the government and now the actual work has also begun. A new pavilion, hostel and academy will be constructed at the estimated cost of PKR 1.39 billion.
A pavilion, press gallery, and squash court has to be demolished in the stadium and they will be replaced. To bring the stadium up to the international standards, floodlights will also be installed in the stadium. Under the extension work, capacity of the stadium will be increased from 18,000 to 35,000 people. The stadium is going to be modelled on Dubai Cricket Stadium.
