Lahore: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is expected to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year (TY) 2019, a news source reported.
The deadline is expected to be extended to December 31. The Pakistan Tax Bar Association has also recommended the extension. The business community has also been demanding a further extension in the deadline.
The original deadline for filing income tax/financial statements for individuals and association of persons (AOPs) for TY2019 was set at September 30. The board has since extended the deadline several times in an effort to bring an increased number of people into the tax net.

The board also revealed last week that as many as 1.6 million people had filed their income tax returns so far.
The FBR officials, while briefing a parliamentary committee, stated that 2.6 million people had filed their income tax returns during the previous fiscal year. The number is expected to rise by the end of the deadline.
