Islamabad: Export operations have commenced at the Gwadar Port, a news source recently quoted Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Trade and Industries Abdul Razak Dawood as saying. He further stated that the operationalisation of the port would help to reduce the burden on the Karachi Port.

As per the details posted to the adviser’ official Twitter account, three containers carrying seafood worth USD 50,000 each were exported on November 19 through China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO)’s Karachi-Gwadar-Gulf-Service to far eastern countries.

The Gwadar Port has been included in the transit rules farmed under the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement 2020. The Pakistani government formed a committee last week to draft transhipment and transit rules for this purpose. The inaugural container service between Karachi-Gwadar and Gulf Service (KGS) was initiated in September.

As per the statement issued by COSCO, the export of multiple items from Gwadar would benefit the local market; especially Gwadar and areas situated near the port facility.
