Lahore: The Punjab Department of Minerals and the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance mineral exploration, focusing on rare earth and industrial minerals in the province.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Gorchani stated that the agreement establishes a strategic framework for cooperation between the two institutions. He emphasized that this partnership will facilitate scientific analysis of mineral deposits and encourage the adoption of modern exploration technologies.

Under the MoU, GSP will provide technical assistance in identifying lithium, placer gold, and other critical minerals, particularly in Punjab’s major river systems and the Sulaiman Range. The initiative aims to strengthen the province’s mining sector by introducing advanced resource assessment methodologies and sustainable mining practices.
Minister Gorchani highlighted that unlocking Punjab’s mineral potential could contribute significantly to economic development while ensuring responsible extraction. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient mineral exploration and long-term resource management.
The ceremony was attended by Punjab Minerals Secretary Parvez Iqbal, Director General of Mines and Minerals Mansoor Ahmad, and other senior officials.
