Islamabad: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reiterated to speed up the construction work on Trans Afghan Railway between Tashkent, Kabul, and Islamabad, according to media reports published Sunday (December 19).

As per the details, a meeting was held between Minister for Pakistan Railways Azam Khan Swati and Transport Minister of Uzbekistan in the city. During the meeting, the Railways minister disclosed that steps were taken to execute the said project. Under this railway project, Uzbekistan will have easy access to the Arabian seaports of Karachi – Gwadar and Bin Qasim.

It is pertinent to note that the Trans Afghan Railway project was signed earlier this year between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. According to details, the railway line will be constructed to connect Central Asia to the Arabian Seaports. The planned route will run from Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan through Kabul to Peshawar, Pakistan and connect to Termez, Uzbekistan. The access to Pakistan’s port will enable Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Kazakhstan to export their products globally through sea routes.
