Lahore: The Director General (DG) of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Muhammad Usman Moazzam has issued directions to expedite the ongoing beautification work at the Thokar Niaz Baig intersection and adjoining areas, in order to improve the city’s entrance point as befits the provincial capital, according to news sources.

He issued these directives while on a visit to inspect the progress made on the project. He remarked that LDA will create green areas on both sides of the canal, and eliminate encroachments.
The Chief Engineer of LDA Mazhar Hussain Khan briefed the DG LDA that a plantation drive to create green spaces along the city entrance was underway. He said that specially designed saplings are being planted, and decorative tile work is also in the works.

In related developments, the authority has installed traffic signboards, 40 new street lamps, 1000 ft long sewerage lines and a 400-metre drain pipe in the area. Additionally, decorative iron fences are to be installed around Lalazar Park and the boundary wall of the Judicial Colony is being painted over. The kerbstone has also been set and painted, while various landmarks are being installed and roads are being fitted with new cat-eyes. The landscaping and horticulture department is further working to beautify the area as well.
