As per the details, the installation of a breakwater is necessary for the expansion of the port as it will provide tranquil berthing conditions for eastern-most berths to be developed in the port. It was disclosed that the implementation period for the breakwater project is 10 years, which is expected to be completed by 2032.
Moreover, the construction of a breakwater at Jebel-e-Nuh (the tip of Gwadar Headland) was proposed by the experts. The expansion plans have been prepared according to the comprehensive feasibility study by CCCC Consultants. It was stated that no breakwater of this dimension has been established in the area. According to the details, the breakwater of 1,772m in length in the north-eastern direction must be constructed.
Additionally, the breakwater project will provide marine protection against the monsoonal swells and waves and meet limiting wave conditions which are considered safe for berthing, cargo operation, and other functions. It was disclosed that the expansion of Gwadar Port requires the future construction of berths in order to cater to new generation ships. The breakwater project is designed for the protection of the area within the Master Plan (2007). It will enable a safe working environment at navigation, port, cargo handling, dredging, mooring, berthing and unberthing, and hydrographic surveys.
