Gujranwala: The Excise and Taxation Department, Gujranwala has decided to arrest all property tax defaulters in the city and seal their properties from November 1 onwards, a news source reported.

According to the statistics shared by the Excise Department, around 150,000 people in the Gujranwala Division haven’t cleared their pending property tax. It is estimated that the department is set to recover property tax dues worth PKR 300 million from defaulters.

Additionally, sources have revealed that the Taxation Department offered a 5% rebate to defaulters if they cleared their pending taxes by September 30. This helped the department recover PKR 300 million, against the annual target of PKR 600 million.

To address this situation, the department has formalised a plan under which special teams led by Excise Tax Officers (ETOs) will issue arrest warrants for property tax defaulters and take them into custody.
Sources in the Excise Department have confirmed that the owners who do not clear their pending property taxes by October 31, will face serious repercussions, which include incarceration and sealing of their properties.
