Rawalpindi: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETNCD) has waived off property taxes on commercial and residential units in the city for three months – March, April and May, a news source reported. Reportedly, the measures are being taken to provide relief to the public at large facing an economic crunch due to the lockdown to contain COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to waiving off property taxes, the department has also waived professional taxes applicable on all shopkeepers. As per reports, the department has also notified the taxpayers of its decision. While property and professional taxes have been waived off, token tax on vehicles sold in the Rawalpindi District will remain intact.

Furthermore, the department will continue to collect luxury tax on high-end property units. Owners of these properties can pay the luxury taxes in instalments, while those who will the amount in one go will get certain discount – details on which are awaited.

Sources within the department reveal that tax collection in proper mechanism will resume from June 1.
