Rawalpindi: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETNCD) – Rawalpindi Branch has launched a survey to impose property tax on land located along the motorways and highways falling in the city’s jurisdiction, a news source reported.
The news sources claim that the property tax will now be collected from owners of land located along motorways and highways throughout Punjab. The proposal in this regard was shared in the Finance Bill 2019-20, where it was recommended that commercial and privately-owned land along motorways and highways should also be brought into the tax net.

Now, the higher authorities have also directed the relevant departments to impose this tax. In this regard, the ETNCD has started a survey to determine such properties in Rawalpindi Division. For this purpose, the survey teams paid a visit to the area connect with the GT Road and took pictures.
According to sources from within the excise department, the agricultural land along the highways and motorways us exempted from this tax. Initially, all commercial and non-agricultural land along these road will be placed in the property tax category C, where the owners will pay 5% of the property value as tax.
