Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Department of Excise and Taxation (E&T) has collected PKR 4.2285 billion in taxes in the fiscal year (FY) 2021–22, news sources reported on July 3. The tax collection has exceeded the set target by 7%.

According to reports, the amount was collected by the E&T department under various categories, including the Property Tax, Motor Vehicles Tax, Excise Duty, Professional Tax, Luxury Tax, and Tax on Motorways and Highways Property. A detailed breakdown of the tax collected is as follows:
Property Tax
The department collected PKR 2.5518 billion in property tax against a target of 2.4075 billion, accounting for 106% of the total. On a district level, the department was able to collect a total of 95 % of property tax from Rawalpindi’s Zone One, 100% from Zone Two, and 114% from Zone III, while Zone Four had the lowest recovery rate of 77%. Reportedly, Jhelum District collected the most property tax with a recovery rate of 131%, Chakwal recovered 115%, and Attock recovered 126%.

Motor Vehicles Tax
PKR 1.133 billion was recovered against the set target of PKR 986.695 million. Rawalpindi district recovered 101% of its target, Jhelum district recovered 108%, Chakwal district recovered 105%, and Attock district recovered 103%.
Excise Duty
In the case of excise duty, PKR 83.82 million was recovered against the set target of PKR 71.75 million. Rawalpindi excise department managed to collect 99%, MBC Rawalpindi 124%, Jhelum 147%, Chakwal 97%, and Attock only 30% of their respective targets.

It was highlighted that the Jhelum district topped the list with 131% in property tax, 127% in professional tax and 108% in motor vehicle tax collection.
