Islamabad: The federal government recently approved the implementation of the electric vehicle (EV) policy — with the initiative aimed at ensuring that 30% of all on-road vehicles in the country are electric by 2030, a news source reported.

Although the policy has been approved, it does not include cars in the first phase and has covered buses, trucks and two- and three-wheel vehicles including motorbikes and rickshaws. A number of incentives have been introduced to encourage both the production and purchase of electric vehicles in the country.
The aim is to bring nearly 500,000 electric bikes and rickshaws, as well as a 100,000 electric cars, buses and trucks on the road within the next 5 years. The policy also aims to cut air pollution and help the country play its part in curbing climate change.
