Islamabad: The European Union (EU) on Thursday offered aid provisions worth €150 million to Pakistan to facilitate its efforts towards curbing the further spread of the coronavirus pandemic, a news source reported.

As per the publication, EU Ambassador Androulla Kaminara called on Minister for Interior Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Ahmad Shah and offered €150 million aid to help Pakistan amid the COVID-19 crisis. Czech Republic’s Ambassador Tomas Smentanka and Netherlands’ Ambassador Wouter Plomp were also present during the meeting.

Kaminara said that the EU would like to assist the vulnerable people during the ongoing crisis. The minister accepted the aid offer and said that it would be helpful for those unable to support themselves during the current situation.

Shah further highlighted that the requisite to acquiring no-objection-certificates (NOCs) was not mandatory for providing relief and the organisations were allowed to assist the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) throughout the country.

The ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s systematic procedure for giving relief to the vulnerable and said that the EU would like to provide support at the local level through the established system.
