Islamabad: European Union (EU)-Pakistan Business Forum for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) is expected to be launched on September 8 in a bid to promote trade, according to media reports published on Sunday (September 5).

As per the details shared, the forum will be inaugurated by the European Union (EU) delegation to Pakistan and the forum’s launch will be attended by the representatives of local SMEs from different sectors including information technology, jewellery and mining, fashion-wear, tourism and travel, gems, and handicrafts.
Moreover, the forum will provide opportunities to improve the use of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+). The said scheme is expected to encourage more European companies to import, bring in new EU investment, and promote international sustainability standards. Also, the forum will analyse the impact of COVID-19 on trade and encourage businesses to benefit from GSP.

It is pertinent to mention that the GSP+ is a special trading arrangement, under which developing nations are offered preferential access to the European markets by decreasing tariffs to zero on products. In return, the countries must implement 27 conventions related to the protection of the environment, labour rights, good governance, and human rights.
