Gujranwala: The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) Punjab has given a 15-day deadline to the manufacturers and sellers of polythene bags to comply with the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC); following which the requisite legal action would be taken against them, a news source reported.

According to details, polythene bags form a major portion of the trash in the city and shops, commercial outlets and shopping malls are still selling and using these polythene bags despite orders of Lahore High Court. In view of these issues, the environmental protection department has decided to crack down on everyone involved in the process.

EPD Deputy Director (Field) Umar Ashraf said that the instructions from the high court have been received and appropriate action will be taken against those who do not comply. Teams have been formed and the crackdown will begin after 15 days.
