Rawalpindi: Environment Protection Department (EPD) has issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for construction of Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) marking it as an environment-friendly project – a news source reported on December 14. This also removes the final hurdle in the launch of construction of the project.

Providing details of the construction work, Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan stated that the work order for the initiation of the construction will be issued in January. Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) will develop the project on the basis of Public-Private Partnership.

The objections raised by the members of the public have also been resolved and the road has been diverted from the direction of the graveyard. The authorities have also begun the groundwork for the acquisition of land around RRR where a special economic zone will be established on the request of the local businesses. Commercial plazas will be established on both sides of the ring road under the project.
