Islamabad: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) sanctioned approvals for 360 projects in the last two years, reported a news source. These projects include new highways, high-rise buildings, housing schemes, CNG stations, factories, and housing schemes.

The agency also rejected 49 applications requesting approval for resuming construction work. The concerned departments have made EPA assessment report mandatory for issuance of NOC for various development and real estate projects. The Agency determines environmental impact of these projects before giving a nod.

For this purpose, the EPA evaluate these projects before issuing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Initial Environmental Assessment reports. During the last two years, EPA received 86 applications for issuance of (EIA) and 143 for IEE.
Out of these, EPA approved EIA report for 15 projects and IEE for 91 project. Currently, 22 applications for IEE reports are under consideration.
