Lahore: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has scheduled a public hearing involving the Gulberg Main Boulevard signal-free corridor project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, as per the notice published in leading newspapers on May 19. The public hearing on the report will be held on June 17 at 10:30 AM in the LDA Sports Complex in Johar Town.

As per the notification, the agency has invited stakeholders, the general public, and government agencies to submit their concerns and recommendations on the EIA report that has been submitted by the proponents of the project. Recommendations and concerns can be submitted to the office of the Deputy Director EIA, EPA Punjab, located near the Hockey Stadium on Main Ferozpur Road within 30 days of the publication of the notice.
Furthermore, the report is available at the EPA library at National Hockey Stadium/Qadafi Stadium, as well as in the EPA Deputy Director’s office.

About the project: The government formally authorised the signal-free corridor in February of this year, and it includes:
- Construction of a 2-lane dual carriageway underpass at Khalid Butt Chowk, near Cavalry Ground
- Construction of a 2 lane single carriageway flyover at Ghoda Chowk towards Defence Mor
- At-Grade remodelling of Defence Morr, Walton Road

According to LDA sources, the project would cost the government PKR 4.10 billion and will be completed under the Annual Development Programme (ADP). The project’s completion will result in a signal-free corridor for traffic travelling to and from Gulberg, Defence, and Cavalry grounds, saving commute time.
