Islamabad: According to news reports, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that the entire country was in support of the government’s ‘10 billion Tree Tsunami’ initiative. He stated that since all the provinces were on the same page, they could collectively work towards the attainment of a healthier future for the coming generations – remarking that the project was a ‘symbol of national unity’.

While chairing a meeting of the Federal Forestry Board on Wednesday, Malik Amin announced that 20 July will be celebrated as National Plant for Pakistan Day which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister by planting a sapling.
He has requested all provinces to revise their targets and devise new plans to achieve them before Independence Day this year. He further went on to ask them to submit their PC-1’s and progress reports by next week to the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination.

According to Malik, the importance of the project can be gauged by the fact that the Prime Minister has allocated PKR 7 billion to it even during such tumultuous times. He is hopeful that the ECNEC will also approve the 10 billion Tree Tsunami project within the coming week.
The meeting also discussed women’s inclusion in plantation drives, timber tax, and gaining more land for afforestation, among other issues.
