Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has ordered the immediate completion of all arrangements pertaining to the launch of the solarisation work of 800 water supply schemes according to news sources. This project is being developed under the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) project framework.
He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held to review CPEC projects in KP. The CM was informed that solarisation of 800 existing water supply schemes was included in the CPEC socio-economic grant.
The project with an estimated cost of PKR 6.84 billion is expected to save PKR 800 million in water bills and PKR 90 million in operational and maintenance costs on an annual basis, while benefiting 2.4 million people of the province.

The CM stated that this initiative was aimed at introducing improvements to the lifestyle of the citizens who would get access to clean drinking water provision at affordable rates. He also revealed that the public health engineering department had initiated such solarisation projects that yielded successful output. He added that 600 schemes had been solarised so far.

CM Mahmood also issued directions for the acceleration of progress on other projects proposed to be included in CPEC. He also called for separate presentation on new and existing mega schemes being executed under the public health engineering department.
