Karachi: Engro – one of the largest conglomerates of the country – has refurbished the iconic PIDC Bridge in Karachi that’s a major connection to M.T. Khan Road, according to news published on August 17.

The Advisor to Chief Minister and the newly instated Administrator for Karachi Murtaza Wahab Siddiuq inaugurated the bridge on the eve of Independence Day. Engro Energy Limited CEO Ahsan Zafar Syed, Engro Corporation President Ghias Khan, and other officials of the Engro team were also present at the ceremony.

The bridge, also known as ‘Chand Mari’ or Lovers Bridge, has a history dating back to pre-partition times. The PIDC Bridge has a vital role to play in the development of Karachi. The Bridge was first constructed when railway services were established in the city. Back then, it connected the warehouses to the commercial centre. Currently, the PIDC Bridge is among the major arteries for traffic in the city.
