Lahore: The Energy Department is considering to review its policy on provision of electric connections to unapproved colonies in a bid to extend its availability to the katchi abadis and other remote areas still without power, a news source reported on September 30. Minister for Energy Akhtar Malik has directed the officials concerned to establish a policy on the matter.

A three-member committee comprising officials from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Energy Department has been formed for the purpose of formulating the new policy.
Additionally, LESCO has also provided the requisite details for areas still without electricity to the department. According to these details, in LESCO’s 7 circles, 490 unapproved housing schemes do not have electricity whereas the residents have repeatedly submitted applications for electricity connections.

Moreover, the committee will prepare its report after visiting these areas, which will then be submitted to the relevant departments for further processing.
