Rawalpindi: The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has issued notices to the Rawalpindi Development Authority, Metropolitan Corporation, Water and Sanitation Agency, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, and the deputy commissioner to remove all encroachments in the city within the next two weeks, a news source reported.

In addition, the bench directed the department concerned to improve the condition of roads in the city by covering manholes, and removing extra cat-eyes, among other measures. The court further warned that in case of non-compliance of orders, it would issue a contempt of court order against the accused party.

According to the information available, the Metropolitan Corporation has been instructed to hire additional staff and machinery to help remove encroachments across the city. Reportedly, the authorities concerned have already initiated a drive to retrieve state land from encroachers and the land mafia.
