Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that the province would start producing electricity from Thar coal and add it to the national grid in December, according to a news source. He lauded this step as an excellent one for the country, and emphasised on the importance of Thar coal as a game-changer in the power sector.
Shah made these statements while addressing 215 delegates from the National Security and War Course-2019 of the National Defence University at the CM House. He also recalled that the Sindh Government had invested over USD 1 billion for the development of a road network, airport, and other facilities in Thar. He termed the Thar region as a goldmine of opportunities for various sectors such as power generation, hospitality, tourism, transport, and mining, among many others. He stated that the provincial government had partnered with Engro to mine the coal in Thar, and these efforts are now bearing fruit.
