Lahore: Punjab Specialised Health Care and Medical Education Department has decided to set up shelter homes in eight teaching hospitals in the city, reported a news source. Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar issued orders for setting up these shelter homes.

The teaching hospitals to features shelter homes are Mayo Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital, General Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Children Hospital, Sheikh Zayed Hospital, and Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The department is keen to setting up the shelter homes on a priority basis. In this regard, the management of these teaching hospitals have also received related directions.

As per the instructions given to them, the administrators of these teaching hospitals have to identify appropriate land within their premises suitable for setting up shelter homes. Depending on the total area of these facilities, the prescribed land can vary between 1 to 4 kanals.
