Islamabad: The Ehsaas Scholarships Steering Committee – which oversees the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Project – on Monday announced its decision to launch the Ehsaas Undergraduate Portal on September 5 to receive fresh applications for the year 2020-21, according to news sources.

The steering committee of Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Project, in its sixth meeting, reviewed the progress of the academic session 2019-20 and planned for the 2020-21 session.
The committee is co-chaired by Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) Dr Sania Nishtar and Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Tariq Banuri. It conferred the overall progress of the scholarships of worth PKR 4.827 billion – being awarded to 50,762 undergraduate students including 38% female students in 2019-20.

While addressing the meeting, Nishtar revealed that at least 50,000 undergraduate scholarships will be awarded each year to improve the educational access for deserving students. This four-year initiative will support 200,000 students from low-income backgrounds – with 50% quota reserved for female students.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Tariq Banuri assured the meeting members that transparency and equity was being ensured through evaluation and joint monitoring, under the initiative. Moreover, the approval of awarding 50,762 scholarships at 119 public sector universities will be expedited as universities start to reopen following the ease in the anti-COVID-19 lockdown.
