Islamabad: The government on Wednesday commenced with the distribution of cash to families registered under the second category of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme, a news source reported.

As per the publication, all beneficiaries in the second category were registered through SMS service 8171. These beneficiaries were found eligible after their profiles were filtered through the country’s socio-economic database.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar interacted with the payment beneficiaries at the Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), G10/4.

All the beneficiaries were directed via a customised message on April 15 to visit payment centres near their residences and receive PKR 12,000 emergency cash. Nishtar further thanked the district administration and the Islamabad Capital Territory Police for managing the crowds and facilitating the beneficiaries.

The Ehsaas initiative received about 83.61 million messages until April 15. The deadline for registration is set to expire on April 19 midnight. Until now, the executive has disbursed PKR 37.608 billion in cash payments to 3.134 million families registered with the programme.
