Karachi: In view of the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, the federal government has been making efforts to start developing ventilators locally — with the a number of models having already been designed, and human trials expected to begin today, a news source reported.

Reportedly, four tech companies have prepared specific models that will be tested on coronavirus patients in the medical centres of Islamabad. Once a particular model is approved, it will then be put into mass-production.
The testing for the ventilators will be overseen and regulated by a number of high medical officials, including experts from the drug regulatory authority. Afterwards, a committee including members of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and medical specialists are expected to perform additional tests to determine the viability of each model.

If approved, the work on mass-producing these ventilators will begin. After Pakistan is successfully able to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, the project will be handed over the World Health Organisation (WHO).
