Quetta: Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade Chief Executive Farman Zarkoon on Monday remarked that the operational commencement of the special economic zones (SEZs) in Hub and Bostan would help promote industrialisation in the province, according to news sources.

He said that these SEZs are being established under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2012. Moreover, Zarkoon said that the board will act as a mediator between the SEZs and its operators, revealing that the entrepreneurs and developers will be exempted from taxes and duties on import of all capital good – which are to be utilised for the development, maintenance and operations of SEZs.

He went on to say that the Bostan SEZ will offer investment opportunities in various industries like fruit processing, pharmaceuticals and the agricultural machinery among others. Regarding the Hub SEZ, he said that the 400-acre of the zone will encompass chemical, cement, pharmaceuticals, food, oil lubricants, energy, metal processing, marble, minerals and steel grinding plants. He added that the project will create some 143,000 direct and indirect jobs for the province.
