Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has finalised a three-year economic development plan for North and South Waziristan, according to a news story published on Friday (January 14). Under the plan, 55 schemes worth PKR 16 billion will be executed in North Waziristan and 57 projects worth PKR 24 billion will be implemented in South Waziristan.

Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan chaired a meeting to discuss the three-year development plan. Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, the cabinet members, and senior officers of the relevant department were also present for the meeting.
As per the details, different matters were discussed during the meeting including administrative measures, law and order, development projects and other issues of the merged districts with a special focus on North and South Waziristan tribal districts.
During the meeting, the provincial government has approved a project worth PKR 7.8 billion for the beautification of urban areas and bazaars in the merged districts. A project for the construction of district and tehsil complexes in tribal districts was also approved. The meeting also approved PC-1 of two projects to boost tourism in the merged districts.
Moreover, it was informed that a master plan for the provision of clean drinking water for residents will be approved next week. The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to expedite the pace of work on all development projects. He added that any delay will not be tolerated. Also, the CM Khan ordered the authorities to identify land for the establishment of the industrial estate in North Waziristan.

Reportedly, the completion of the projects will boost economic activity in the tribal districts and generate job opportunities for the locals.
