Islamabad: A revised plan of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is being sent to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval, according to a news source. This revised plan has been sent to ECNEC on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan. These directives were issued in a meeting held at Banigala with Khyber Pakhtunwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan.
The revised plan is to cost PKR 66.4 billion, and has already been approved by the Provincial Development Working Part (PDWP) and the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). An official press release revealed some details regarding the project. It stated that this multi-billion project was not only for public transport with a bus corridor, but will also be a grand plan for many other roads in the city.
Among the plans, there are designs for the construction of drainage pathways, a bicycle track, and moving utility service lines. All of these will be placed along the 13-kilometre-long elevated road, with three-kilometre-long underpasses. The original cost of this project was initially PKR 57 billion, but with CDWP cutting the cost by 15 %, this has been brought down to PKR 49 billion, according to senior officials of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA).
