Islamabad: Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid on Friday stated that the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) would review the Main Line (ML)-1 project in July in a bid to grant final approval to the initiative, a news source reported.

Talking to the media, Rashid revealed that the ECNEC meeting has been scheduled for July 9, during which it would review the ML-1 project for approval. Previously, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) had recommended the project for ECNEC’s approval.
Discussing the ML-1 approval, the minister extended his thanks to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa for raising the project with the Chinese government on every forum. He also announced 0.1 million job openings in the Railways Department.
He added that a tender in this regard would be floated soon. He also revealed that the Pakistan Railways would establish a Railways University near Carriage Factory, for which discussions were underway with China.

The ML-1 is a project costing around USD 7.2 billion under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.
