Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a Diamer-Bhasha Dam Power Generation facilities and several road infrastructure projects, according to a news published in the leading newspaper on April 6.

An ECNEC meeting was held which was chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. During the meeting, the attendees considered and approved 4,500 MW Diamer-Bhasha Project Power Generation facilities, at the cost of PKR 1.236.10 billion including a Foreign Exchange Component (FEC) of PKR 598.19 billion.
As per the details, the purpose of the project is to capitalise on the economical and renewable hydropower energy benefits of 4,500 MW from the power generation facilities under the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project. The said project will be implemented by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

A road project that was approved by the ECNEC was the dualization and rehabilitation of the Dera Ghazi Khan-Dera Ismail Khan section of N-55, at the cost of PKR 11.377 billion without FEC. According to details, the project includes acquiring land for the widening and upgradation of a 329.7-kilometre long four-lane wide dual carriageway, starting from Rajanpur and terminating at Dera Ismail Khan.
Another project approved in the meeting was a reconstruction of the Turbat-Mand Road project, from the Sukkur-Larkana-Gwadar motorway (M-8) to the Iranian Border (Radeeq), at the cost of PKR 19.571 billion. Under this project, the 115-kilometre-long carriageway, starting from Gwadar-Ratodero Motorway to Kurumb in Balochistan, will be reconstructed and upgraded.

Moreover, ECNEC approved the construction of the Panjgur-Gichak-Awaran road, at the cost of PKR 27.638 billion. The revised project will construct a 228-kilometre-long carriageway from Panjgur-Gichak-Awaran in southern Balochistan.
