Lahore: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has provided its approval to the development of a PKR 14 billion sewerage project in the city, a news source reported. According to details, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will develop the project by utilising a tunnel boring technology.

To this effect, a sewerage line will be laid between Larex Colony and Gulberg. The proposed line is stated to be about 18-kilometres in length. The project will be completed in two phases under which the sewerage line will be laid underground through the tunnel within 30 months. The project will be completed with assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Authorities say that this will be the first time that the sewerage lines will be laid through tunnel boring. The system is also expected to help avoid the incessant problem of traffic issues which cause infrastructure issues.
