Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Thursday (July 15) provided its approval to the construction of four mega projects including the Sukkar Hyderabad Motorway, a news source reported.

The approved projects include the following:
- Construction of Swat Expressway’s Chahdara-Fatehpur Section
- Development of Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway
- Construction of Ratodero Gwadar Motorway M-8’s Hoshab-Awaran-Khuzdar Section
- Development of road project linking Khyber Agency and Khyber Pass Economic Corridor

The development cost of the above-mentioned projects is estimated to be PKR 289 billion. According to Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, PKR 24 billion has already been spent on acquiring land for Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, where the land acquisition process is near completion.
Speaking about Ratodero Gwadar Motorway M-8, the minister said that the construction of Hoshab-Awaran-Khuzdar Section will improve road connectivity in Balochistan. ‘The section will play an important role in providing connectivity to the future trade between central parts of the country and Gwadar,’ he said.

Sharing details on Chahdara-Fatehpur Section of Swat Expressway, the minister said that the road will run between Chakdara, Saidu-Sharif/Mingora, Matta, Khawazakhela to reach Fatehpur. This section of the expressway will help harness tourism potential of the region. ‘The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor extension project will National Highway N-55 with Peshawar-Torkham Motorway and further link it with Chimkani and Jhagra’, revealed Umar.
