Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Wednesday (November 25) gave go-ahead to road infrastructure and satellite projects worth PKR 190.215 billion, according to media reports.

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar chaired the ECNEC meeting, which was attended by federal sectaries, and Minister for Industries Khusro Bakhtiar. In the meeting, ECNEC approved Sialkot-Kharian Motorway. The said project was presented by the Ministry of Communication along with orders for the National Highway Authority (NHA) to submit a progress report on the development of the business model to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet. The project is designed to develop a 69-kilometre long four-lane wide Sambrial-Kharian Motorway, with structures developed for six lanes.
Another project that ECNEC gave a nod to was the Pakistan Optical Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-02) project of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), at the total cost of PKR 27.913 billion. The said project will help develop an indigenous capacity in the fields of space and satellite technology along with contributing to self-reliance in satellite technologies in the country.
Moreover, the meeting also approved the New Gwadar International Airport second revised project. Under this project, the international airport will be constructed along with allied facilities on the already acquired land. The ECNEC also approved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement project, at the cost of PKR 97.146 billion. Under this initiative, the quality of life of the residents of five KP cities – Mardan, Peshawar, Kohta, Mingora, and Abbottabad – will be improved.

Reportedly, the meeting also approved remodelling of the Warsak Canal system in the Nowshera and Peshawar districts. Another project that got a nod was the construction of 10th Avenue from IJP Road to Srinagar Highway, Islamabad, at the total cost of PKR 12.139 billion. The project will be completed in two phases in two years.
