Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved funds of PKR 97.64 billion for various projects, including small dams in Balochistan, Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and other projects, a news source reported. As per the publication, Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh approved the development projects.

ECNEC approved a total of PKR 4905.667 million for the “Toiwar/Batozai Dam Project” in Killa Saifullah District of Balochistan. The dam will be able to store 95000-acre feet of water – enabling land cultivation of 16,750 acres. The Balochistan Irrigation Department will carry out the project.

The committee also approved the Naulong Dam Project in principle and permitted the Economic Affairs Division to negotiate the financing of the project with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Additionally, ECNEC approved PKR 10,956.16 million for the operationalization of Green Line BRTS and the installation of the equipment of integrated Intelligent Transport System. The foreign exchange component (FEC) of the project is PKR 5,316.68 million.

ECNEC also approved PKR 16,081.617 million for the National Electronic Complex in Islamabad. China has provided PKR 13,371.729 million of the total approved fund as a grant and loan. Funds amounting to PKR 25,345.672 million were approved for the National Programme aimed at construction of farm ponds, wells, and watercourses in Barani Areas of the country. It also approved funds worth PKR 11,892.639 million for the construction of double-lanes and improvement of the Mandara-Chakwal Road.
