Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has provided its approval to the rehabilitation and widening of the Shikarpur-Rajanpur section and the Rajanpur-DG Khan stretch of the Indus Highway (N-55); in addition to sanctioning other schemes amounting to PKR 196 billion – a news source reported on October 1.

Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was presiding over the ECNEC meeting, which called for making improvements to the mechanism aimed at reducing the planning and execution period for these projects.
The committee also approved the construction of a 222km additional carriageway project for Shikarpur-Rajanpur section at a cost of PKR 44.7 billion. To facilitate this measure, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a loan worth PKR 40.2 billion. It is expected to be completed in three years.

Under the project, two additional lanes will be laid while the two current lanes will be widened and rehabilitated.
