Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) gave a nod to several significant projects of different sectors across the country, according to the news published on July 11.

A meeting was held focused on important economic matters and decision-making regarding key projects, which was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar. One of the approved projects was the construction of the Lahore Bypass, stretching approximately 40 kilometres from Kalashah Kaku Exit to Multan Road near the Radio Station. The estimated cost of this project is PKR 34,446.585 million, and it will be financed under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The ECNEC also approved the ‘Evacuation of Power from 800 MW Mohmand Dam HPP to the National Grid’ project, with an estimated cost of PKR 14,319.18 million. The Asian Development Bank will provide financing for this project, which will benefit the districts of Nowshera, Peshawar, and Mohmand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Additionally, the ECNEC reviewed the ongoing “Sindh Solar Energy Project” executed by the Energy Department of the Sindh Government. The revised cost for this project is PKR 27,418.13 million, and it aims to improve energy security and fulfil Pakistan’s commitments to climate change.
Furthermore, the committee approved the ‘Prime Minister’s National Program for Solarization of Agriculture Tube Wells.’ With a total cost of PKR 377,236.275 million, this three-year project will convert 100,000 tube wells into solar PV systems, promoting clean and green energy in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

The ECNEC approved the ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Investment & Industrial Support Project,’ to be executed by the KP government. This project, costing PKR 110,700 million, will span two phases and focus on districts such as Bajur, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, North Waziristan, Orakzai, South Waziristan, and erstwhile FR regions.
