Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved four development projects worth PKR 448 billion, news sources reported on February 6. The Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin chaired the meeting and approved funds for the following projects: Punjab Arterial Roads Improvement Programme (PARIP); Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project (PRSWSSP); Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-IV and Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway project.

The breakdown of each project is as follows:
- PKR 129.94 billion has been approved for PARIP, which includes constructing 535-kilometre long dual carriageway highway sections between various cities of Punjab.
- PKR 96.2 billion has been approved for the PRSWSSP. The Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC) will complete the project in 16 tehsils. The initiative intends to offer essential civic services like water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management in rural parts of the province’s designated tehsils.
- PKR 126.4 billion has been approved for the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (K-IV), which will supply 260 million gallons (MGD) during its Phase-I. The project also includes the Karachi Transportation Plan (KTP) and will be executed by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
- PKR 95.81 billion has been allocated to construct the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway project. The project will be executed on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis under the Public-Private Partnership (3P) model. The project will be a 117.20-kilometre long four-lane road.
