Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday allocated an additional PKR 75 billion to help the hard-hit people of the country amid the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, a news source reported.

The government estimates that six million people will benefit from the new scheme, in addition to the beneficiaries of Kifalat programme. The allocated amount had been deducted from the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Package, which is worth PKR 200 billion, the official statement said.

Adviser to Prime Minister (PM) on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired the ECC meeting in which the concerned decision was reached upon. It was informed that PKR 12,000 per person would be distributed among the people under a programme titled ‘Mazdoor ka Ehsaas Programme’, the official statement said.

The meeting directed the ministries of Poverty Alleviation & Social Sector Development Division (PASSD) and Industries & Production to collaboratively design a comprehensive procedure to ensure efficient and fair distribution of the financial relief to the needy citizens of the country.
