Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a PKR 5 billion Ramzan Relief Package for the United Stores Corporation (USC), the news sources reported on March 2.

The ECC approved a hybrid model of targeted and untargeted relief package for Utility Stores Corporation in a meeting presided over by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The Ministry of Industries and Production submitted the Ramzan Relief Package summary, which was discussed and approved by the ECC. Sources revealed that the government will provide targeted subsidies of PKR 1.15 billion to people registered under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and PKR 3.84 billion for untargeted subsidies on various items, including ghee, tea, flour, sugar, milk, beverages, dates, and gram flour.

It is important to note that the month of Ramadan is around the corner, starting on March 22. The inflation rate, however, has reached a historic high of 32% in the month of February and is expected to rise amid an interest rate hike expected in the next few days.
