Lahore: Easypaisa Pakistan has partnered with the Zakat and Ushr Department of the Punjab government to distribute PKR 1.5 billion in Zakat funds among 170,000 local beneficiaries, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the funds were disbursed among the deserving families affected by the lockdown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will be disbursed across ten days to maintain social distancing among the recipients/beneficiaries. Across 36 districts of Punjab, the beneficiaries will be able to receive their Zakat funds from 70,000 Easypaisa retailers.

Easypaisa President & Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Mudassar Aqil said that their company was providing the government its services in these difficult times. He said that Easypaisa was working with various departments of the government, as it was suited for Government-to-People transactions.

Zakat and Ushr Minister Shoukat Ali Laleka said that the government was helping people by utilizing the Zakat funds and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ehsaas Program. He said that the early distribution of these funds would help sustain deserving families during the COVID-19 lockdown.
