The stalled work on some important infrastructures in Karachi is likely to resume soon as the Standing Committee on Communication has directed the concerned departments to finish the construction work on Lyari Expressway and Super Highway by December 31, 2015.
The long standing traffic issues in Karachi require an effective management plan as well as addition of some extensive road infrastructure. In this regard, the Standing Committee on Communication decided in a meeting to resume stalled work on Lyari Expressway and add two more lanes to Super Highway, Karachi.
After analysing the stalled work situation at Lyari Expressway, the Standing Committee, which was headed by member National Assembly Mr Sufyan Yousaf, decided to issue Rs 200 million for resuming the construction work there. In this meeting, a committee, comprising representatives from National Highway Authority and Motorway Police, was also formed. This committee would give its recommendations to direct traffic on Lyari Express from south to northward during the rush hours.
To reduce the traffic load on Super Expressway, the Standing Committee also directed on expansion of Super Highway by adding two more lanes to it. The committee’s recommendations also included building of a modern and equipped trauma centre on the Super Highway Karachi to help reduce the road side accidents.
To benefit from such projects, their timely completion is very important and for this purpose, the Standing Committee on communication has given a deadline. The committee has directed the related departments to finish the projects by December 31, 2015. We will keep you posted about the updates.
