Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday (February 25) invited companies from Netherland to invest in waste-to-energy projects in the city and utilise modern technology to clean Manchhar Lake in the Dadu district, according to news sources.

Ambassador of Netherlands Willem Wouter Plomp held a telephonic meeting with CM Shah. During the meeting, the chief minister was informed that the Dutch companies were interested in investing in a waste-to-energy project in Karachi. The Dutch envoys offered to invest and operate a waste management project in the city, stating that the Dutch companies have expertise in waste management.
Moreover, CM Shah ordered the Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh to meet the Netherlands team to finalise the modus operandi for the said project. The ambassador informed the CM that experts will visit the lake for technical advice.

The minister stated that the Manchhar Lake, Sehwan, was among the largest lakes in the world. However, because of the disposal of saline water and other issues, the lake had become polluted, which has left several fishermen families without a livelihood. He further added that the lake’s water is so polluted that it cannot be used for drinking and irrigation purposes.
